It is my mission to promote education in a positive manner, to spark the love of learning within each student, and to provide the foundation for insight, knowledge, awareness, and wisdom within them, as they become lifelong learners. Developing these skills is essential in order to educate, challenge, and inspire all students by setting high standards and imbuing the value of integrity in order to develop effective communicators, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners.
My personal belief is that children are all capable of becoming constructive members of the human race. I also believe that every child is blessed with a strength that he or she can bring to the classroom. As a teacher, it is my job to assure and teach them in order that they can learn all they will need. This way they can discover their strengths and become positive people for our future.
Teaching every child the fundamentals is important. I believe that reading and writing are two of the most essential aspects for a student to learn, and that if learned well, a student would most likely excel in other areas. Not only are the basics important, it is also important to teach students what is relevant in their lives. Teaching at my alma mater, I feel I have a special window into the lives of my students, one in which I can peer into and inject my own life lessons.
A well-run school has a close-knit staff that can work and solve issues together. Having a close staff also helps boost the entire morale of the school, because the teachers create bonds that help them through difficult times and keep them happier, and in turn, the students being taught by the teachers will be happier. A well-run school also has a clearly defined set of rules for all students that help them understand the importance of self-discipline and motivation. Furthermore, a well-run school has a mission statement, so that the staff and students always know what to strive for, and can make important decisions based upon this missions.
The most effective methods of education in a school are through actively teaching the students. Students will become bored and uninterested in learning the material if the teacher fails to make school fun and exciting. Children need to be brought to understand that learning is important and interesting. A high-performing teacher actively teaches children, and through this method, the children will eagerly listen and learn. I also believe that having a student-centered curriculum is very important. While I do believe in teaching the basics, I also believe that teaching what the students view as interesting or important in their lives is a good idea. If the students want to learn, the teachers should teach them, even if it is not built into the teacher's lesson plans.
The role of the teacher more than simply the transfer of information; it is to be a mentor, counselor, and friend. This is not always an easy task. A high-performing teacher is one who has the students' respect because they are able to teach and supply the students needs, but are also there as a support system for them.
It is so important for family to be involved in the academic lives of their children. When a teacher has the support of a student's parents or guardians, that student is more likely to respect and take the teacher seriously. A student will also try harder in school when a parent is actively involved in wanting to know how their student is doing in class.
